At a glance
Most public universities in Germany charge no tuition fee to international students, only a semester contribution of a few hundred euros. For engineering, automotive, renewable energy and computer science, the combination of zero tuition and a strong industrial job market is unmatched.
Who it suits
Cost-conscious students with strong academics, particularly in engineering and the sciences. It suits students willing to learn some German, even where the course is taught in English, because the job market rewards it.
What it costs
Tuition is nil to ₹4 lakh a year depending on whether you choose a public or private university. Living costs are around ₹9–11 lakh, and you must deposit roughly that amount into a blocked account before your visa is issued.
What we watch for in your file
- Uni-assist and APS certification, which are steps students routinely discover too late.
- The blocked account, opened and funded in time for the visa appointment.
- Whether your bachelor’s degree maps to the German programme’s subject requirements. Germany is strict about subject continuity.
Deadlines to plan around
Winter semester applications close in July for an October start; summer semester closes in January for April. Visa appointment slots are the real bottleneck, book them early.
