At a glance
New Zealand has only eight universities and every one of them is state-funded and internationally ranked, which removes the risk of choosing badly. Post-study work rights run up to three years for degree-level qualifications, and the student visa allows twenty hours of work a week during term.
Who it suits
Students who want a smaller, safer country with lower competition for post-study work than Australia, particularly in agriculture, environmental science, IT, healthcare and hospitality.
What it costs
Tuition runs ₹12–22 lakh a year and living costs ₹8–11 lakh. The overall package is usually below Australia for a comparable qualification.
What we watch for in your file
- Genuine intent evidence, which Immigration New Zealand assesses closely for Indian applicants.
- Qualification level, because post-study work rights depend on studying at degree level or above.
- Financial documentation showing the source of funds, not just the balance.
Deadlines to plan around
February intake applications should be filed by September or October, and July intake by March.
